How We Brought This Dream Pool to Life

The Fitzpatrick’s have young children and who love to swim and are active so they wanted a backyard to accommodate that lifestyle. They knew a little bit about what they wanted including it being a classic rectangular pool, but they were open and welcome to our team coming in and sharing new ideas to elevate their entire backyard layout.

 Transforming Designs into Reality

This custom pool project required strategic planning, precise excavation, and close coordination between multiple trades to ensure a seamless build within a tight residential footprint.

The site presented unique constraints. The pool was positioned within close proximity to the home, a screened-in porch, existing decking, and fencing — limiting equipment access and maneuverability during excavation. Additionally, the property featured a significant grading slope descending from the main road toward the pool area. To protect the integrity of the excavation, our team engineered a low-cut swale system to redirect rainwater runoff and prevent water intrusion into the dig.

Excavation revealed hard clay soil, which ultimately provided an excellent, stable foundation for the pool shell. However, after rainfall, the clay became slick and challenging to work with, requiring careful timing and site management.

A signature structural feature of this build was the custom water wall with three integrated scuppers. The central scupper wall was engineered as part of the pool shell, while the extended side walls were intentionally separated to allow natural structural movement due to their length. Additional drainage was installed behind the wall to manage hydrostatic pressure caused by the hillside grade.

The project also required utility coordination. The existing gas meter was undersized for the added pool heater, requiring collaboration with the gas company to install an upgraded meter and properly connect to the supply side. With the new gas meter installation, electrical service had to be relocated to meet code-required clearances.

Throughout construction, Coastal Pools coordinated closely with Hometown Landscaping, the independent hardscape contractor, to align timelines and ensure completion prior to the homeowners’ late July event.

Homeowner’s Perspective

A Word from Our Satisfied Client

Our yard was just grass, and we have children who love to swim, so we thought what better way to incorporate that than to put a pool in. Coastal Pools helped us with the whole backyard, which was great. We wanted a rectangular pool and kind of knew a bit about what we wanted, but when you guys came in and gave us a lot of great suggestions, we didn’t even know were possible, we ended up with a great backyard because of that. They set us up with this great portal that showed us the project and where we were in the timeline, so the communication and transparency were wonderful for us.
